Overview
A counter gear shaft (also known as a countershaft or layshaft/jackshaft) is a precision-engineered intermediate shaft within transmissions or gearboxes. It carries one or more gears that mesh with both the driving (input) and driven (output) gears, enabling multiple speed ratios and seamless torque transfer.
